Abstract

This study is a descriptive qualitative research that aims to find out and describe the difficulties faced by EFL (English Foreign Language) learners in acquiring their second language. The method used in this research is classroom action observation method, which is conducted by giving pre-test and post-test related to EFL. After further observations, the data obtained will be processed using Simak Catat method and analysed according to the theories and methods used. This study took a sample of about 35 students of Baiturrahim Vocational School who were in grade X. Based on the research conducted in Baiturrahim Vocational School, the results show that most of the students have difficulties in learning EFL. The difficulties they face are because as the target language, Englis has certain difficulties. Such as the pronunciation, intonation, and meanings that are almost the same between one word and another. In addition, one of the difficulties that EFL learners face is due to cultural differences, as some learners have never seen or heard people in their environment or around them using English as a second language.
