Digital Literacy, The Role of the School Principal

Abstract

The continuously evolving digital era demands digital literacy as a crucial skill that students must possess to access information and engage in independent learning. Therefore, school principals have a significant responsibility in developing students' digital literacy. This study aims to analyze the role of the school principal in fostering a reading culture based on digital literacy at SD Negeri 093/V Betara Kiri. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study include the principal, teachers, and students. The selection of subjects was conducted using purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study used an interactive model, beginning with data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that the principal plays a crucial role in enhancing digital literacy through training for teachers, providing offline digital learning resources, and developing technological infrastructure in collaboration with external parties. The principal also encourages digital-based learning programs and fosters collaboration between the school, parents, and the community to support the development of digital literacy outside the school. These findings indicate that innovative and collaborative leadership can help overcome infrastructure limitations and create a sustainable digital literacy culture in rural schools.
